Technical Support
FTT’s experienced engineering support staff is available to define and develop test objectives, including aerodynamics, heat transfer, structural, and materials testing. Support is also available for evaluation of existing government and commercial test facilities versus test objectives, or to design a new facility to meet test objectives. Upon identification of pertinent test objectives, FTT’s laboratory staff utilizes test matrix optimization to balance risk and to optimize data value versus test expense. Pre-test data predictions are executed using highly calibrated FTT codes or customer supplied codes, and these predictions are fully documented to enhance data expectations and understanding as the test progresses. Real-time data processing applications are developed to enable quick and accurate interpretation of data as testing progresses, and on-site engineering and technician test support is available for commissioning sites, demonstrator cores/engines, and scaled rig testing. High quality documentation for pre-test, on-site, and post-test activities are provided to enable better customer/user communication and resources for future test activities.
Design
FTT can provide conceptual and detail mechanical design for test facilities and test articles, including aerodynamic, heat transfer, and structural analyses. Our staff is skilled in the definition of instrumentation types and locations to obtain desired test information. Parts definition is integrated with the location of instrumentation for minimum environmental intrusion and test risk, and integration with parts manufacturing is also undertaken. The design process includes manufacturing and instrumentation drawings, and solid models are processed in several CAD formats, including Unigraphics, ProE, Catia, AutoCad, and Rhino.
Hardware Fabrication & Assembly
FTT can undertake the fabrication of cast, machined, and rapid prototype hardware. As part of this endeavor, our staff is available for the design and manufacture of assembly and dis-assembly tooling and special test fixtures. To aid in part performance optimization, FTT also provides part and assembly balance of rotating hardware. Hydrostatic proof and deflection measurements are provided for pressure vessels, and build documentation of critical stack and clearance dimensions is provided as a standard procedure. FTT prides itself on the delivery of “test-ready” hardware and support of customer facility installation, as well as the support of facility upgrades and new facility commissioning.
Instrumentation
FTT’s laboratory provides a wide range of services to suit all of your instrumentation needs. Standard and infinite tube configurations can be hypo routed for steady and unsteady pressure measurements, while dynamic pressures are ascertained through integration of miniature high-frequency pressure measurement gauges. Capacitance probes are employed for static to rotating hardware clearance measurements, and thermocouples are implemented for the investigation of low and high temperature environments. The laboratory also utilizes liquid crystal thermography for the evaluation of transient heat transfer environments. Steady and high response strain gauges are utilized for steady stress and vibratory response measurements, and rig vibratory health monitoring is performed through the use of accelerometers. FTT’s laboratory provides high recovery, subsonic, transonic, and supersonic rake designs, with multiple sensing locations and radial and circumferential traversing capability. Our personnel are also skilled in the integration and instrumentation routing of slip ring and telemetry units for rotating hardware measurements.
Test Facility Experience
In addition to FTT’s Aero-Thermal, Structural & Material Integrity, and Demonstrator Engine, Component, & Rig Testing Services, Florida Turbine Technologies has experience at several Government and University Labs, OEM Commissioning Sites, and OEM Core/Engine Test Facilities.
